“JUMP!” said the voice.
I was scared, aimless, lost in my life. I never really fit in.
“Come on! Do it! JUMP!” I tried not to listen but that only made it louder.
Angry and frustrated with myself, absolutely desperate, I took a step forward.
“What are you waiting for?! JUMP!”
This time I would give in to the voice. In that moment, everything changed in my life. This was the moment I invested in Bitcoin.
As a teen, I was always getting into trouble at school. I never respected authority and always felt the education system had failed me. Most of my time was spent messing around, causing trouble wherever I could.
During one particular episode of mischief, I almost got myself expelled for hijacking the school’s PA system. The principal didn’t see the funny side of it.
To me, the education system treated many of us like robots. I was just a number to them. They never took my creativity and humanity into account. If you couldn’t achieve high grades, you were deemed a failure and that was that.
I never liked being told what to study either. I wanted to learn at my own pace and about things that interested me. They’d ask, “What would you like to be when you grow up?” as if I was supposed to know!
It was an impossible question to answer – I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to do at that stage, not many of us do. So many adults around me seemed miserable, full of regret and unhappy with their lives.
All I knew was that I did not want to grow up to be one of them.
College didn’t hold any answers. I decided to do a sport science course, just to do something that I had some interest in, but I was still directionless.
While studying at college, I worked a boring desk job at a call center during the evenings, weekends and summers, mainly to support myself.
As with most students, I had very little money, and unfortunately during this period, I was having family issues and didn’t have a strong relationship with my parents. Essentially, I was on my own.
To make matters worse, I lost my job at the call centre. My unscrupulous corporate employers even refused to pay me my final paycheck.
Without that money to keep a roof over my head, I was forced onto the streets. Made homeless by a greedy and selfish system, I was utterly alone.
Desperate, I spent the next few months living at a British homeless shelter named Nightsafe. It was as if the universe was against me, no matter what I tried to do to better myself and my circumstances.
Wanting to feel more self-fulfilled, I decided to quit my sports science degree. I knew it wasn’t what I really wanted to be doing with my life and eventually, I got a job at a local gym earning a measly £4/hr.
After everyone else had gone home, I would hide in the gym behind the locked doors. I slept there in a smelly storage closet for weeks, undetected from my co-workers.
Nobody knew how rough a time I was going through. I was too embarrassed to reach out to anyone for help.
One night while lying on my mattress in that storage closet, I began to take stock of my life and questioned how the hell I had ended up in this position, convulsing between fits of sadness and anger.
I was angry at society, angry at the system, angry at myself. Would anyone notice or even care if I was gone?
Luckily, I had an angel looking out for me. She came in the form of Becky, an accounts admin at the call center.
With a dishevelled look about me, I marched into the head office, demanding the money they owed me. They refused, however upon hearing about my plight, Becky became my saviour.
She changed the payroll account records so it showed a payment to me was due. Finally, I got the boost that I was praying for! It was a small win, but it was massive for me during those dire days.
I decided there and then that I would turn my life around. I would work my socks off and prove everyone wrong.
Most of all, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do something with my life. I vowed to NEVER let myself get into that situation EVER again.

A few nights later, I was sitting alone in the gym’s storage closet watching a BBC documentary about some new type of ‘internet money’. I’d never heard of it before. It was called Bitcoin.
I’ve always had a fascination with the financial system, but this felt like something completely different. Something revolutionary!
Curiosity piqued, I started using my spare time to research Bitcoin and how it worked. I spent hours every day on online forums, sending DMs, making new friends and asking them if they’d share their story of how they got into Bitcoin.
I was inspired by what I heard. Bitcoin was directly improving the lives of all kinds of people around the world, whether it was people living under tyrannical governments, refugees, whistleblowers, they all had a common perspective: Bitcoin will help bring real and meaningful change to the world.
I fell in love with Bitcoin there and then, and began creating a variety of Bitcoin related products and selling them directly to customers worldwide. And, of course, I was accepting Bitcoin as payment for the products!
My zest for life was returning. I applied to University and got accepted.
Now I was working full time at the gym, studying at University, while also running my newly established Bitcoin business. I worked 100 hours per week for years.
Meanwhile, I was getting a University grant payment which I was investing directly back into Bitcoin.
During this period, Bitcoin’s popularity began exploding, changing the world we live in and giving people freedoms they’ve never known before.
Suddenly, Covid came along, followed swiftly by national lockdowns. I had enough of being just another doormat for the government to constantly wipe its shoes on. Encroaching on our freedoms and giving nothing back to those who needed it most.
The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, came on TV telling us we were ‘all in it together’, and that it was needed in order to ‘protect older vulnerable people’. The very same older generation of people the government didn’t seem to care about when they cut their pension payments and benefits.
“Lies!” I thought. A little voice inside my head demanded I do something about it. I’d show them!
I want you to feel you can take that leap, gain control and change your life with Bitcoin, just like I did.
With the world going cashless, some of the worst affected people are those who have the least; the homeless population.
Which is why all proceeds raised from the Bitcoin documentary, via donations, will be given to Nightsafe Homeless Charity. They are near and dear to my heart, having helped me when I was at my lowest.
They helped get me through that terrible period of my life and I will pay it forward in any way I can.
